Acute Kidney Injury

Patients may suffer AKI for a variety of reasons. Some suffer kidney injuries due to infections, surgeries, or the adverse effects of medications. Others are severely ill with multi-organ problems and are in the Intensive Care Unit. Hospitalised patients with AKI have a high risk of an adverse outcome. There are a variety of support therapies for these patients including continuous renal replacement therapy (hemodialysis, hemofiltration or hemodiafiltration), slow continuous ultrafiltration, and plasma exchange.
