Lab tests are usually done on a sample of your blood, urine, stool, other body fluids or on a piece of tissue from your body. Certain Lab tests are done to confirm a specific disease while other tests provide a more general information on overall status of your organs and systems. Generally, your doctor or a nurse will explain why the tests are needed. We encourage you to ask your doctor or nurse to explain you how the test will be done and what it might show. This will help alleviate your worry.
Before you arrive
Your doctor, nurse or clinical assistant will advise you at the end of the consultation if a blood or any other test is required before the next visit. If a test has been advised, please ensure that you receive the requisition for the advised test. It is a good habit to ask your doctor/nurse/clinical assistant whether fasting is needed for the test.
