Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) proudly announces the official opening of MCGH Opticals Addu, the first government-integrated optical outlet in the southern atolls. The facility was inaugurated on 7th February 2026, by the Minister of Health, Honorable Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, during a special ceremony held at AEH.
The event was attended by the CEO of Malé City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, and the CEO of Addu Equatorial Hospital, Dr. Ibrahim Yasir Ahmed, along with senior officials and staff.
During the inauguration ceremony, a partnership agreement was signed between AEH and IGMH to deliver ongoing technical assistance and maintenance services for the optical shop, supporting its long-term sustainability.
While AEH has long provided comprehensive ophthalmology services, the absence of an on-site optical outlet meant patients often experienced delays or incurred higher costs when seeking lenses and frames from private providers. The opening of MCGH Opticals in Addu directly addresses this gap.
As the first facility of its kind outside the Greater Malé region, it enables patients in Addu City and the southern atolls to conveniently access optical services with high quality and low costs.
MCGH Opticals Addu is located in the AEH OPD side and is now open to serve the public during standard hospital hours.
