Addu Equatorial Hospital to Introduce Paramedic Ambulance Services
Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) is preparing to introduce paramedic ambulance services in Addu City this year as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency medical care and enhance pre-hospital services for the community.
Recruitment is currently underway for qualified paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to establish a dedicated ambulance service capable of providing advanced medical care at the scene of an emergency and during patient transport.
The introduction of paramedic ambulance services is one of the hospital's key priorities this year and forms part of AEH's continued commitment to improving emergency healthcare delivery.
At present, nurses accompany ambulances responding to emergencies. With the introduction of dedicated paramedics and EMTs, patients will receive specialized pre-hospital emergency care before arriving at the hospital, further strengthening the emergency response system.
AEH currently works in close collaboration with health centres across Addu City to ensure timely emergency response. Ambulances stationed at individual health centres respond to incidents within their respective service areas, enabling patients to receive prompt assistance during emergencies.
As Addu City continues to grow and road traffic increases, the demand for efficient emergency medical services has also risen. The introduction of paramedic ambulance services is expected to improve patient outcomes by providing professional assessment, stabilization, and treatment at the scene and during transport to the hospital.
In addition to the new ambulance service, AEH is also planning to develop a dedicated Ambulance Complex as part of its long-term infrastructure expansion. The facility will further strengthen emergency operations and support the delivery of high-quality emergency medical services.
